Loose Ends when Tying the Knot

Pennsylvania Marriage License Information:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a marriage license without parental consent.
  • There is a three day waiting period from the date of the application until the date the license is issued. The license is then valid for up to 60 days.
  • Both applicants must be present to secure a marriage license. A valid identification such as driver’s license, passport or birth certificate is necessary. You will need to provide your social security number as well.
  • It is not necessary for you to be a resident of Pennsylvania to obtain a marriage license.
  • If you have been previously married, a certified copy of your divorce decree or death certificate is needed. A certified copy with the court embossed seal of your divorce decree or annulment must be presented. The date of the death of a deceased spouse must be available.
  • The charge for a marriage license varies by county but is usually between $40 and $60.
  • No physical examination or blood test is required.
  • A Marriage License obtained in one Pennsylvania county may be used in any county within the state.
  • More information is available at http://sites.state.pa.us/marriage/

Payment of our fee:

  • There is no charge for the initial consultation
  • A non-refundable 50% of the fee is required at the time of the contract signing
  • The balance of the fee is required at least two weeks prior to the ceremony date.
(Although some wedding services such as a caterer or DJ are paid the day of the ceremony, it is our belief that the officiant should be focused on the ceremony, so all financial considerations are completed two weeks prior to the wedding day.)
